FORGING IRON | WEEK 25

Good: I got featured by Garmin. Bad: I got sick.

MONDAY

MEAL PREP

Started the week off with a throwback in my meal prep. I haven't made this recipe in awhile, but it's a good one.

Spicy Balsamic Chicken

Source: Fit Men Cook

Servings: 14 meals

Ingredients

  • 8.5 lb chicken breasts
  • 12 tbsp balsamic dressing (no oil)
  • 3 tbsp red chili pepper sauce
  • 3 tbsp organic raw honey
  • 3 tsp fresh ginger (freshly grated or use ginger paste)

Steps

  • Mix balsamic dressing, honey, red chili sauce, and ginger
  • Place chicken in a bag or bowl, then add sauce
  • Marinate for 30+ minutes
  • Place on baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees F

TUESDAY

STRENGTH - FULL BODY

First workout of the day goes to Jahmale with a full body circuit. I have to train with Deano later on tonight, so this should be an interesting day...

STRENGTH - CORE

I know I complain about Deano a lot, and for good reason. She goes out of her way to inflict pain.

But, I have to give her serious props. Thanks to her, I got featured on the official Instagram of Garmin this week. SO SICK.

Then she killed me.

WEDNESDAY

Finally got back out to the bike trail for a great BRICK session! Hell yes.

CYCLING

  • Average Pace: 17.3 mph

RUNNING

  • Distance: 6.0 miles
  • Total Time: 54:27
  • Average Pace: 9:01 per mile

THURSDAY

REST

I took today off because I've had two straight days of two-a-days. Fatigue has really set in recently and I haven't been sleeping well. I really cannot get sick.

FRIDAY

STRENGTH - UPPER BODY

Solid session with David today, where I did ALL OF THE PUSH-UPS. Seriously.

  • Wide grip lat pulldown
  • Push-ups

Part 2

  • T-bar row
  • Plate front raises
  • Push-ups

Part 3

  • Straight arm pull-downs
  • Pull-ups
  • Push-ups

Part 4

  • Reverse flyes

  • Push-ups

SATURDAY

REST

I had planned to swim today, but I feel like I'm about to get sick. I always struggle with whether I should try to push through the sickness and work out anyways, or rest and be back to my regular training schedule quicker.

I'm going to rest. Maybe I'll feel up to it tomorrow.

SUNDAY

REST

Nope. I definitely feel worse. Well, this is a shitty way to end the week. And Key West is 2 weeks away.

WEEK 25 SUMMARY

This week started off strong but cratered at the end with me getting sick. I lost two entire days of race preparation. This is incredibly frustrating, but I know I'll be able to push through it somehow. I always feel like I'm not doing enough, like I'm not ready, or that I'm not good enough. Then the whistle blows and it's totally different.

Hopefully this will be the same kind of situation.
